Samsung Smart TVs use the Tizen operating system. For that reason, although the setup flow works on the same logic as other smart televisions, the store and menu names are different. The whole setup is done with the remote; no computer or extra cable is needed.
In this article we explain the IPTV setup on Samsung TV step by step and list the points to pay attention to after setup and the solutions to common problems.
Before starting the setup, make sure the television is connected to the internet and have the access details ready. On Samsung televisions apps are listed according to the country setting; therefore typing the full name of the app when searching in the store is the quickest method.
Network connection: the connection status can be seen from the settings menu.
Country setting: the store content may vary by region.
Access details: playlist URL or account details.
Software update: keeping the current version up to date is recommended.
First the network connection of the television is checked, then the software version. A significant part of the problems experienced during setup is caused by an out-of-date software version or a weak wireless signal.
Connection test: the network test result of the television must be successful.
Signal level: the router should be positioned close to the television.
Wireless fluctuation: if the stream stutters, a wired connection should be tried.
Update: install the software and restart the television.
On Samsung televisions apps are installed through the store in the main menu. After finding and installing the app, a login screen is generally displayed on first start; the playlist URL or the account details are entered on this screen.
| Step | What to do | Checkpoint |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | The network and software are checked | Are the connection and the version up to date |
| 2 | The player is installed from the store | Does the app appear in the list |
| 3 | Login details are entered | Were the fields filled in completely |
| 4 | The source is selected | Was the correct login method selected |
| 5 | Stream is tested | Does the channel open and is switching smooth |
On players on Samsung televisions the login screen generally offers two options: playlist URL or account details. Whichever format you received the information in is selected; a wrong selection leads to the playlist not loading. The M3U vs Xtream Codes article explains the difference.
Source selection: the playlist or account login must be marked correctly.
URL entry: the playlist URL must be written completely.
Account login: the server, username and password fields are filled in separately.
Saving: the playlist is not received unless the details are saved.
When the setup is complete, the order of the channels and the smoothness of the stream are checked. This step shows that the setup is really complete.
Categories: are the channels grouped under headings?
Channel switching: does the selected channel open quickly?
Stream quality: is the picture stable?
Stream information: are the programme details visible?
If the guide is not visible, EPG (programme guide) the explanations on the page guide you.
The problems encountered on the Samsung side are mostly related to the data format the app expects. The table below lists the first checkpoint by symptom.
| Symptom | Possible cause | First check |
|---|---|---|
| The list stays empty | Wrong source selection or URL error | Check the login method and the URL |
| The setup screen does not appear | The app has not opened fully | Close and reopen the app |
| The channel list is incomplete | The playlist was not refreshed | Refresh the playlist and update the player |
| Stream stuttering | Wireless signal fluctuation | Test with a wired connection |
| The details are being erased | App data has been cleared | Enter the details again and save them |

After setup, the way you use the television determines the experience. Bringing favourite channels forward, removing unnecessary apps and keeping the software up to date increase the continuity of the stream. Players available in the Tizen store that support a playlist or account login can be used. The criteria are explained in the How to choose an IPTV player article.
Yes. The login details are defined separately for each device. As long as the details stay the same, the process takes a few minutes.
Yes. Because the stream arrives over the internet, the connection of the television must be continuous.
