Mac IPTV covers watching live TV, film and series content on desktop and laptop computers running the macOS operating system. This page covers installing a player, adding an M3U playlist, casting to the television with AirPlay, network and energy settings, and simultaneous device coverage.
Using IPTV on a Mac computer requires a player that supports M3U playlists, the M3U playlist shared within the subscription or Xtream Codes login details, and a stable internet connection. Once the setup is complete the channel list is loaded and the favourite layout and category order can be edited.
Two points stand out on the Mac side: the player version matching the chip architecture and the energy settings. A version downloaded for the wrong architecture may not open, while the power saving setting can cut the stream during long viewing sessions. Those who want to watch on the television can cast with AirPlay, but when a second screen is opened at the same time a separate subscription per device is required. For the general flow see the IPTV setup guide page.
Computer Support
Setup on a Mac computer is completed in four steps: installing the player, defining the login details, adjusting the network and energy settings, and testing the stream. Those who want to watch on the television test AirPlay casting in the last step.
A player that supports M3U playlists is downloaded in the version matching the chip architecture of the Mac and installed. After installation the app is given system security approval.
The M3U playlist address or Xtream Codes details are added to the player; the channel list is loaded and the favourite and category layout is created.
The player is given network access permission, a wired connection is preferred where possible for connection stability, and the sleep mode is switched off in the power saving setting.
A short test stream is watched; if casting to the television is planned, the transfer is tested with AirPlay and the channel switching speed is assessed.
When the power saving settings turn off the screen and put the system to sleep the stream stops. For long viewing sessions the sleep timer has to be switched off and the screen saver disabled. For casting and connection problems the IPTV freezing and internet requirements pages guide you.
The items below summarise the points to check on macOS computers before setup; each row points to a step that has a counterpart in the system settings, the network configuration or the player.
| Check item | Why it matters | How to check |
|---|---|---|
| BasicmacOS version and storage space | Some players may not install on older versions. | Check the version and the free storage space in the system information. |
| CompatibilityChip architecture and hardware acceleration | The player may not open with an incompatible version installation. | Download the version matching the Mac chip type and keep the acceleration setting on. |
| NetworkWireless connection and network permission | Security software may block the network access of the player. | Give the app network permission and use a wired connection where possible: Wi-Fi problems. |
| PowerSleep and power saving | The stream is cut on a system that goes to sleep. | Switch off the sleep timer in the power saving settings. |
| CastingCasting to the television with AirPlay | Using a second screen during casting may lower the quality. | Connect the television to the same network and test casting: see the Apple TV IPTV. |
| ScopeSimultaneous device scope | Opening a second stream during casting requires a separate subscription per screen. | Choose how many screens you need and compare the single-device IPTV and multi-connection IPTV pages. |
| SupportProgramme guide (EPG) matching | If the guide does not match, programme times and channel information will not appear. | Set the guide source and refresh the list: EPG setup. |
The items in the table summarise the checks that can be made on the macOS side. For the subscription terms (period options, the 3-hour trial and the 3-day refund) see the IPTV prices and refund and subscription terms pages.
The subscription used on a Mac is offered in three period options and every subscription is defined for 1 simultaneous device. If a second screen will be opened during casting or a separate stream will be watched on the television, a separate subscription is taken per device.
3-month subscription
30 EUR single simultaneous device
Short-term use for trying out setup and casting on a Mac.
6-month subscription
50 EUR single simultaneous device
For medium-term use once the channel list and favourite layout have settled.
12-month subscription
80 EUR single simultaneous device
The lowest monthly cost for long-term use on a desktop or laptop Mac.
Subscriptions are defined for a single simultaneous connection. Users who want to watch on a second device at the same time need a separate subscription per device.
For 2 devices the total is 60 EUR for 3 months, 100 EUR for 6 months and 160 EUR for 12 months; for 3 devices it is calculated as 90 / 150 / 240 EUR.
The trial period is 3 hours and the refund period for subscriptions is 3 days. The details of the terms are on the refund and subscription terms page.
The total is calculated per subscription (number of devices × the price of one subscription). For the period options see the IPTV prices page, for a side-by-side comparison the package comparison page and for the trial terms the IPTV trial pages.
A player that supports M3U playlists is installed on the Mac computer, the M3U playlist shared within the subscription or the Xtream Codes login details are defined, and the channel list is loaded. Then a short test stream is watched to assess the picture quality and the channel switching speed.
Players may be offered in different versions depending on the chip architecture. Downloading the version that matches the chip type used in your Mac prevents failure to open caused by an incompatible installation. The architecture can be checked in the system information.
AirPlay can be used to transfer the Mac screen or picture to a compatible television; the devices must be on the same network. If you want to use a second screen during casting, a separate subscription per device is required.
Yes, the stream is cut when the power saving settings turn off the screen or put the system to sleep. For long viewing sessions it is recommended to disable the sleep timer in the energy settings.
Although playback in a browser is possible with some players, channel list management, favourite layout and the programme guide view stay limited. Installing a desktop player is therefore more practical.
The trial period is 3 hours; during this period you can test channel switching, picture quality and AirPlay casting. The refund period for subscriptions is 3 days; the details of the terms are on the refund and subscription terms page.
Each subscription is defined for 1 simultaneous device; watching on a Mac and a television at the same time requires a separate subscription per device. The total for 2 devices is 60 EUR for 3 months, 100 EUR for 6 months and 160 EUR for 12 months.
