Google TV IPTV describes watching live TV, movie and series content through a player installed from the store on televisions and playback devices with the Google TV interface. This page covers the profile and store check, player installation, a list layout independent of the recommendation screens and the simultaneous device scope.
Using IPTV on Google TV devices requires a player installed from the store, the login details shared with the subscription and a stable internet connection. The interface recommendation screens work for content discovery; the stream itself runs entirely through the player app. The profile the setup is made in determines whether the app appears in that profile.
Store setup, app permissions and the side-loading flow work in a similar way on these Android TV based devices; interface differences only affect the home screen layout. If parental control or a restricted profile is used during setup, the player may need to be opened in that profile. Device family comparison is given on the device compatibility page.
Google TV support
Setup on Google TV devices proceeds in four steps: profile and store check, player installation, entering the login details and testing the channel list and guide. The steps are independent of the interface language; menu names may look different depending on the language setting.
Select the profile the player will be installed in and search for an IPTV player in the store. If a restricted profile or parental control is used, the player must be allowed to open in that profile.
Install a suitable player from the store. If there is no suitable option in the store, side-loading or an external playback device is considered; after side-loading the permission granted is turned off.
The M3U list or Xtream Codes login is added to the player and the channel list is loaded. The channel order and the favourites layout can be arranged with the remote.
Define the programme guide source, check that the channel information matches and assess connection stability with a short test broadcast.
The Google TV interface changes with updates; menu names and app locations may look different, but the setup logic stays the same. For step-by-step details see the IPTV setup guide and Android TV IPTV pages.
The headings below summarise the points recommended to check during setup and use on Google TV devices; they show the profile, store, player and connection steps together.
| Check item | Why it matters | How to check |
|---|---|---|
| BasicSetup profile and store access | The app is listed only in the profile it was installed in. | Before setup select the profile and search for a player in the store. |
| CompatibilitySystem version and interface update | Menu names and locations may change after an update. | Check the version and update status in the system section of the device settings. |
| SetupPlayer permissions | A restricted profile or parental control may block the player. | Check the profile restrictions; if side-loading was used, turn the permission off afterwards. |
| ConnectionInternet and network type | Fluctuations in the wireless network can cause the stream to freeze. | Use ethernet where possible; check the signal strength on wireless: Wi-Fi problems. |
| ScopeSimultaneous device scope | Watching on a second screen at the same time requires a separate subscription per screen. | Choose how many screens you need and single-device IPTV and multi-connection IPTV pages. |
| UsageChannel list and favourites layout | A cluttered list slows down browsing channels with the remote. | Create a favourites list and arrange the channel order inside the player. |
| SupportProgramme guide (EPG) matching | If the guide does not match, broadcast times are not displayed. | Set the guide source and refresh the list: EPG setup. |
The headings in the table summarise the checks that can be made on the Google TV side. For subscription terms (duration options, 3-hour trial and 3-day refund) see the IPTV prices and refund and subscription terms pages.
On a Google TV device the subscription is offered in three duration options and each subscription is defined for 1 simultaneous device. The number of profiles does not change the subscription scope; a separate subscription is required per screen.
3-month subscription
30 EUR single simultaneous device
To try the setup on a Google TV device and for short-term use.
6-month subscription
50 EUR single simultaneous device
For medium-term use once the profile and list layout have settled.
12-month subscription
80 EUR single simultaneous device
The lowest monthly cost with long-term use on a Google TV device.
Subscriptions are defined for a single simultaneous connection. Users who want to watch on a second device at the same time need a separate subscription per device.
For 2 devices the total is 60 EUR for 3 months, 100 EUR for 6 months and 160 EUR for 12 months; for 3 devices it is calculated as 90 / 150 / 240 EUR.
The trial period is 3 hours and the refund period for subscriptions is 3 days. The details of the terms are on the refund and subscription terms page.
The total is calculated per subscription (number of devices × the price of one subscription). For the period options see the IPTV prices page, for a side-by-side comparison the package comparison page and for the trial terms the IPTV trial pages.
A suitable player is installed from the app store in the Google TV interface, the login details shared with the subscription are entered and the channel list and programme guide are loaded. The profile the setup is made in matters; if the profile is changed the player has to be opened again in that profile.
Google TV is an interface layer running on an Android TV foundation; store and player setup follow the same flow. The difference is in the recommendation screens and the home screen layout. For the steps on the Android TV side you can look at the Android TV page.
The recommendation screens work only for content discovery; they do not affect broadcast quality. If more than one profile is used, note the profile the player was installed in, because apps are listed per profile.
There are two options: side-loading by granting permission in the device settings, or connecting an external playback device that has its own store, such as a Fire TV Stick, to the television with HDMI. When side-loading is used the permission has to be turned off after installation.
The trial lasts 3 hours; during this time you can test channel switching, picture quality and connection stability on your TV. Subscriptions come with a 3-day refund window; full terms are set out on the refund and subscription terms page.
Voice search lists the apps in the store and the content that can be watched; some players do not appear in app search. In this case you need to search the store directly by the app name or consider the side-loading option.
Each subscription is defined for 1 simultaneous device; watching on two screens at the same time requires a separate subscription per device. The total for 2 devices is 60 EUR for 3 months, 100 EUR for 6 months and 160 EUR for 12 months.
