Apple TV IPTV means watching live TV, film and series content on Apple TV and tvOS devices. This page covers player setup from the app store, the AirPlay alternative used when no suitable player is available in the store, channel list layout and simultaneous device scope.
To use IPTV on Apple TV devices you need a player installed from the app store, the login details shared with the subscription and a stable internet connection. Once setup is complete, channel switching and interface use are done with the Siri Remote; creating a favourite list speeds up switching.
If no suitable player is available in the store, two alternatives come up: casting the picture to the television with AirPlay from the player on an iPhone or iPad, or connecting an external player device with its own store by HDMI. Because the device must stay on and on the same network during casting, an external device is more practical for long-term viewing. For details see the Fire TV / Firestick and iPhone / iPad IPTV pages.
Apple TV support
Setup on Apple TV devices proceeds in four steps: checking the store and the device, installing the player, defining the login details and testing the stream. If no suitable player is available in the store, the AirPlay or external player alternative is considered in the second step.
Verify that the Apple TV model and system version are sufficient. On a wireless network the signal strength is checked; the device must be accessing the internet over the same network.
A suitable player is installed from the app store. If no suitable player is available in the store, the AirPlay casting or external player option is considered.
The M3U playlist or Xtream Codes details are added to the player; the channel list is loaded and the favourite layout is created with the Siri Remote. The channel order can be rearranged later.
The programme guide source is defined, the channel matching is checked and the switching speed and picture quality are assessed with a short test stream.
During AirPlay casting the phone or tablet must stay on; for this reason a store installation or an external player device is preferred for permanent use. For details see the IPTV setup guide and Fire TV / Firestick pages.
The items below summarise the points to check before setup on Apple TV and tvOS devices; each row marks a step that has a counterpart in the device settings, inside the player or during casting.
| Check item | Why it matters | How to check |
|---|---|---|
| BasicModel and system version | On older generation models there may be waiting on high-resolution streams. | Check the version and update status in the Settings section. |
| CompatibilityStore and player options | If no suitable player is found in the store, the setup stops. | Run a store search; if necessary consider AirPlay or an external player device. |
| CastingAirPlay connection | If the device turns off during casting, the stream is cut off. | Keep the phone or tablet and the Apple TV on the same network; for long use prefer an external device. |
| NetworkWi-Fi band and signal strength | Fluctuations in the wireless network can cause the stream to freeze. | Use a position close to the router and the 5 GHz band if possible: Wi-Fi problems. |
| ScopeSimultaneous device scope | Watching on a second screen at the same time requires a separate subscription per screen. | Choose how many screens you need and single-device IPTV and multi-connection IPTV pages. |
| UsageSiri Remote and favourite layout | A cluttered list slows down browsing channels with the remote. | Create a favourite list and arrange the channel order inside the player. |
| SupportProgramme guide (EPG) matching | If the guide does not match, programme times and channel information will not appear. | Set the guide source and refresh the list: EPG setup. |
The items in the table summarise the checks that can be done on the Apple TV side. For subscription terms (duration options, the 3-hour trial and the 3-day refund) see the IPTV prices and refund and subscription terms pages.
The subscription used on an Apple TV device is offered in three duration options and each subscription is defined for 1 simultaneous device. If casting with AirPlay is used, the subscription still applies to a single screen; watching on a second screen at the same time requires a separate subscription per device.
3-month subscription
30 EUR single simultaneous device
To try the setup on an Apple TV device and for short-term use.
6-month subscription
50 EUR single simultaneous device
For medium-term use once your favourites are set up.
12-month subscription
80 EUR single simultaneous device
The lowest monthly cost for long-term use on an Apple TV device.
Subscriptions are defined for a single simultaneous connection. Users who want to watch on a second device at the same time need a separate subscription per device.
For 2 devices the total is 60 EUR for 3 months, 100 EUR for 6 months and 160 EUR for 12 months; for 3 devices it is calculated as 90 / 150 / 240 EUR.
The trial period is 3 hours and the refund period for subscriptions is 3 days. The details of the terms are on the refund and subscription terms page.
The total is calculated per subscription (number of devices × the price of one subscription). For the period options see the IPTV prices page, for a side-by-side comparison the package comparison page and for the trial terms the IPTV trial pages.
A suitable player is installed from the app store on the Apple TV device, the login details shared with the subscription are defined and the channel list and programme guide are loaded. Once setup is complete, channel switching is done with the Siri Remote.
There are two alternatives: casting the picture to the television with AirPlay from the player on an iPhone or iPad, or connecting an external player device that has its own store, such as the Fire TV Stick, by HDMI. For continuous use the external device is more practical because it allows direct use with a remote.
AirPlay is a casting method used when no suitable player is available in the app store. During casting the phone or tablet must stay on and on the same network; for this reason an external player device is preferred for long-term viewing.
On 4K-supported models the processor and memory capacity are higher, so channel switching and the interface are smoother. On older generation models waiting can occur with high-resolution streams; in that case lowering the stream quality setting can be a solution.
Creating a favourite list and arranging the channel order inside the player speeds up switching. Closing apps running in the background also improves the interface response.
The trial lasts 3 hours; during this time you can test channel switching, picture quality and connection stability on your TV. Subscriptions come with a 3-day refund window; full terms are set out on the refund and subscription terms page.
Each subscription is defined for 1 simultaneous device; watching on two screens at the same time requires a separate subscription per device. The total for 2 devices is 60 EUR for 3 months, 100 EUR for 6 months and 160 EUR for 12 months.
