Android TV IPTV means watching live TV, film and series content on Android-based televisions and TV box devices by installing a player from the app store. This page covers the store and sideloading options, remote-control setup steps, TV box use and simultaneous device scope.
To use IPTV on Android TV devices you need a player that can be installed from the store, the login details shared with the subscription and a stable internet connection. When no player is available in the store, sideloading can be done; this requires granting the unknown sources permission in the device settings and it is recommended to turn this permission off after setup.
An Android TV Box makes it possible to use the same flow on older televisions without store support: the device is connected to the television by HDMI, the player runs on the box and the television serves only as a screen. Remote control use, channel list and favourite layout settings are done through the player interface; the comparison of supported players is on the device compatibility page.
Android TV support
Setup on Android TV and TV box devices is completed in four steps: checking the store and device suitability, installing the player, defining the login details and testing the stream. If sideloading is needed, the permission step takes place within the second step.
Check the device's system version, storage status and the player options in its store. If the store returns no result, consider sideloading or an external player.
Install a suitable player from the store. If sideloading will be done, the necessary permission is granted in the device settings and turned off once the installation is complete.
The M3U playlist or Xtream Codes details are added to the player; the channel list and favourite layout are created in this step. Channel ordering can be arranged with the remote.
Define the programme guide source and check that the channels match; assess channel switching and picture quality with a short test stream.
If there is a player that can be installed from the store, that should be preferred first; sideloading comes into play when no suitable app is available in the store and requires a trusted source. The details of the steps are on the IPTV setup guide and IPTV apps pages; the external device options are on the Fire TV / Firestick page.
The items below summarise the points to check before setup on Android TV television and TV box devices; each row marks a step that has a counterpart in the device settings or inside the player.
| Check item | Why it matters | How to check |
|---|---|---|
| BasicSystem version and store access | On older versions the player installation may not complete. | Check the version and store access in the system section of the device settings. |
| CompatibilityStorage and performance | When storage is full the player cannot be updated and the stream may be cut off. | Remove unused apps, clear the cache and close background apps. |
| SetupSideloading permissions | If the permission is not granted the sideloading will not complete; if it is left on it creates an unnecessary risk. | Grant the permission only during setup and turn it off once the process is finished. |
| ConnectionInternet and network type | Fluctuations in the wireless network can cause the stream to freeze. | Use ethernet if possible; on wireless check the signal strength: Wi-Fi problems. |
| ScopeSimultaneous device scope | Watching on a second screen at the same time requires a separate subscription per screen. | Choose how many screens you need and single-device IPTV and multi-connection IPTV pages. |
| UsageRemote and player interface | Interfaces that are not suited to a remote slow down channel switching. | Choose a remote-focused player and speed up switching by creating a favourite list. |
| SupportProgramme guide (EPG) matching | If the guide does not match, programme times and channel information will not appear. | Set the guide source and refresh the list: EPG setup. |
The items in the table summarise the checks that can be done on the Android TV side. For subscription terms (duration options, the 3-hour trial and the 3-day refund) see the IPTV prices and refund and subscription terms pages.
The subscription used on Android TV devices is offered in three duration options and each subscription is defined for 1 simultaneous device. If viewing on two devices such as a television and a TV box at the same time is planned, a separate subscription is taken per device.
3-month subscription
30 EUR single simultaneous device
To try the setup on an Android TV device and for short-term use.
6-month subscription
50 EUR single simultaneous device
For medium-term use once the setup and playlist layout are complete.
12-month subscription
80 EUR single simultaneous device
The lowest monthly cost for long-term use on an Android TV box.
Subscriptions are defined for a single simultaneous connection. Users who want to watch on a second device at the same time need a separate subscription per device.
For 2 devices the total is 60 EUR for 3 months, 100 EUR for 6 months and 160 EUR for 12 months; for 3 devices it is calculated as 90 / 150 / 240 EUR.
The trial period is 3 hours and the refund period for subscriptions is 3 days. The details of the terms are on the refund and subscription terms page.
When the number of devices increases the total amount is calculated per subscription (number of devices × the price of one subscription). For duration options see the IPTV prices page, for a side-by-side comparison the package comparison page and for the trial terms the IPTV trial pages.
A suitable player is installed from the device's app store, the login details shared with the subscription are defined and the channel list and programme guide are loaded. Sideloading may be needed for players that are not in the store; in this step the unknown sources permission is granted and it is recommended to do the installation together with the support team.
Yes. An Android TV Box is connected to the television by HDMI and works with a player installed from its own store. On older televisions without store support this method allows the television to be used only as a screen.
Sideloading is only needed when no suitable player is available in the store. It is recommended to do it with files downloaded from a trusted source and to turn the unknown sources permission off after setup. If there are players that can be installed from the store, those should be considered first.
When the player interface is chosen for remote-control use, channel switching is easy; creating a favourite list and using channel numbers increase speed. Some Android TV Box models also support a keyboard or mouse.
The trial period is 3 hours; during this time you can test channel switching, picture quality and connection stability. The refund period for subscriptions is 3 days; the details of the terms are on the refund and subscription terms page.
Removing unused apps, clearing the player cache and applying the device's system updates is usually enough. Closing apps running in the background during streaming also helps with both storage and performance.
In this case two routes are followed: sideloading by granting the necessary permission in the device settings, or connecting an external player device that has its own store and player support to the television by HDMI. The second option simplifies setup and does not affect device performance.
