IPTV is a broadcasting method that lets you watch channels over the internet instead of a satellite or terrestrial transmitter. This page explains in plain language what IPTV is, its differences from classic broadcasting, the infrastructure required and the ways it is used.
Television broadcasting was transmitted with satellites and terrestrial transmitters for a long time. With IPTV the same content is sent to the device as data packets over the internet connection. No dish, frequency setting or cable network is needed; the delivery of the broadcast depends on the internet connection.
This method gives the viewer device variety and flexibility in the channel layout. On the other hand, picture quality is directly related to the capacity and stability of the connection. The items affecting quality are gathered on the internet requirements page.
Basic information
IPTV setup varies from device to device, but the flow is the same: preparing the device, installing the player, entering the login details and verifying the broadcast. The steps below summarise this flow.
A choice is made among Smart TV, phone, tablet, computer or media player. It is important that the device supports the broadcast resolution.
A player suitable for the device is chosen and installed. The player is the app that displays the channel list and opens the broadcast.
The playlist address or user details provided with the subscription are entered into the player. The details must be correct and complete.
After the playlist loads, the channels appear and the programme guide fills in. If the guide does not arrive, the steps on the EPG issue page are followed.
If the broadcast stutters, the resolution is lowered or a wired connection is used. The suitable settings are explained on the internet requirements page.
Once the login details are entered, the player updates the playlist itself. The details only need to be entered again when the subscription is renewed. Device-specific steps are on the IPTV setup page.
Broadcasting methods can replace one another; however, the way they are carried and the infrastructure they require are different. The table below summarises the main differences.
| Check item | Why it matters | How to check |
|---|---|---|
| SatelliteTransmission via dish and receiver | Installation and weather conditions affect the signal. | If the infrastructure is ready, the channel quality is constant. |
| TerrestrialTransmission via transmitter coverage | It cannot be watched outside the coverage area. | It requires no extra hardware within the coverage. |
| CableTransmission over the network | It depends on the building's infrastructure. | It can be used at every point the network reaches. |
| IPTVTransmission over the internet | It depends on the capacity and stability of the connection. | With a sufficient connection it can be used on more than one device. |
| DeviceViewing hardware | Satellite and cable broadcasting requires a receiver device. | IPTV is watched on existing devices with a player app. |
| GuideProgramme information | The guide comes together with the broadcast. | In IPTV the guide data is pulled as a separate layer. |
To understand the technical flow of the broadcast you can look at the IPTV technology page, and for the channel list and guide distinction the EPG guide page.
When choosing a period for an IPTV subscription, the decision is based on your viewing routine. The content scope is the same for all period options; the only difference is the period and the total amount.

IPTV is the method that transmits television broadcasts over the internet. Instead of a satellite or terrestrial transmitter, the broadcast reaches the device as data over the internet connection.
In classic broadcasting the picture is transmitted one way and the number of channels is limited by frequency capacity. With IPTV the broadcast is sent over the internet on demand.
Many devices such as Smart TV, phone, tablet, computer, media player and TV box can be used. A suitable player is required for the device to play the broadcast.
A stable internet connection and a device that can play the broadcast are the basic requirements. The connection speed must be sufficient for the resolution being watched.
The subscription provides broadcast access and technical support for the specified period. The scope is defined for 1 simultaneous device.
IPTV is a broadcast transmission technology and the terms of use are determined by broadcast rights. The service terms and legal notice pages explain this scope.
Setup consists of installing the player that suits the device and entering the login details. The steps are explained in the setup guides according to the device type.
